Fotokonkursas "Pasaulis tavo akimis" - mano akimis / Photo contest "The World as You See It" - through my eyes

Teko garbė iškovoti pirmąją vietą konkurse "Pasaulis tavo akimis" (organizuotame Nacionalinės nevyriausybinių vystomojo bendradarbiavimo organizacijų platformos ir viešosios įstaigos "Europos namai").
Kadangi nuotraukų aprašymus paskaityti galima kol kas tik parodoje (Spalio 16-20d. ir 22-25d. Vilniuje -"Multikine", Ozo g. 18 ; Lapkričio 4-8d. Klaipėdoje - "Kultūros fabrike", Bangų g. 5A ir Lapkričio 16-26d. Kaune - VDU foje, S.Daukanto g. 58), tad noriu pasidalinti savo nuotraukomis ir jų aprašymais, kadangi jie tiek pat svarbūs, kiek ir pačios nuotraukos, nes atskleidžia gilesnę istoriją.

Džiugu, kad vyksta tokie konkursai, nes apie pasaulio problemas nereikia tylėti, o šios priklauso ne tik tiesiogiai nuo korumpuotos valdžios ir neišvystytos sistemos, bet dažnai įtakos turi ir turtingos valstybės, korporacijos, o kartais ir mūsų vartojimo kultūra.
Aišku džiaugiuosi ir todėl, kad galėjau ir pati sudalyvauti, atskleisti savo kūrybinę pusę, bei papasakoti istoriją.

Kadangi profesionalė nesu ir fotografavimo įgūdžių sėmiausi būdama gamtoje bei bekeliaudama, tad nuotraukas atrinkau atsižvelgdama į tokius dalykus, kurie man atrodo logiški ir svarbūs - istorija, meniškumas, vaizdo neįprastumas akiai, kokybė, na o labiausiai - vadovaudamasi jausmu, kuris nenuvylė ir už kurį turbūt galiu dėkoti genams :).

Aprašymuose reikėjo tilpti į 100 žodžių, tai pavyko ne iš kart, nes papasakoti apie kiekvieną kadrą yra tikrai daugiau ką. Yra kur tobulėti (ir visada bus:)).

I had an honour to be selected and awarded with the 1st place in a photo contest "The World as You See It" (organised by the Lithuanian NGDO Platform and NGO "House of Europe").
Since the descriptions of the photos can be read only in the exhibition so far (October 16-20d. ir 22-25d. in Vilnius -"Multikino", Ozo g. 18 ; November 4-8d. in Klaipėda - "Kultūros fabrikas", Bangų g. 5A and November 16-26d. in Kaunas - lobby of VDU, S.Daukanto g. 58), I want to share my entry photos and their descriptions, as they are as important, revealing the stories behind.

Such contests are really important and the problems of the world should not be kept in silence as many of them depend not only directly on corrupted governments and undeveloped systems, but often they are greatly influenced by rich countries, corporations and sometimes - our own culture of consumerism as well.
And of course, I am happy that I had a chance to participate, reveal my creative side and tell the stories (not just in my blog:)).

Since I am not a professional and gained all the skills while being in nature and travelling, I selected the photos taking into account such things that seem logic and important to me - story, artistic value, unusual look, quality and most of all - my own feeling. This feeling hasn't let me down and I guess it comes from genes..:)

 Kai lieptelis atstoja virtuvę, vonią, skalbyklą, uostą...

Banjarmasin (Indonezija) – pietų Kalimantano sostinė (populiacija virš 625.000), įsikūrusi upės deltoje. Dauguma namų stovi ant polių tiesiai ant vandens, kuris atlieka pagrindinį vaidmenį žmonių gyvenime. Vanduo yra kelias, kuriuo juda transportas – valtelėmis vykstama į ant vandens veikiantį turgų, kitus kaimus, vandeniu plukdoma mediena. Iškyla higienos, aplinkosauginės problemos – prie kiekvieno namo stovi tualetai, per langą metamos šiukšlės, cheminėmis priemonėmis skalbiami drabužiai, indai, čia pat žmonės atsigaivina, prausiasi prieš kiekvieną maldą (5 kartus per dieną). Fotografijoje moteris skalbia drabužius, šalia – higienos reikmenys: po skalbimo laukia maudynės. Dažna namų šeimininkė didžiąją laiko dalį praleidžia ant lieptelio prie durų slenksčio.

The bridge as a kitchen, bath, laundry, port..

Banjarmasin (Indonesia) – the capital of South Kalimantan (with population over 625.000), is placed on a river delta. Most of the houses are stabbed with poles straight on the water, which plays a major role in everyday life. Water is the road for the transport – small boats take people to the floating market, other villages, timber is being being downstream. Great hygienic, environmental problems arise here – every house has a bottomless toilet/shower, garbage bags are thrown into the water straight out from the windows, chemicals are used for laundry, dishwashing... People refresh themselves at the same spot, bath before each prayer. The photograph shows a woman doing laundry, toiletries are placed nearby – after the laundry there is going to be bathing. Frequent housewife spends most of the time on the bridge of the house.

Rizikingas ir alinantis sieros kelias

Ijen krateris Javos saloje (Indonezija). Ant pečius režiančios bambukinės lazdos darbininkai neša pilnus sieros krepšius į supirktuvę, esančią ugnikalnio papėdėje. Užlipus ant stataus kraterio krašto vyrai jau gali įkvėpti grynesnio oro ir pailsėti. Vienu kartu nešikas nuneša 65-80kg, ir statų kraterį įveikia du kartus per dieną, uždirbamas kelis-kelioliką dolerių. Pinigai maži, bet užtikrinti.

Kasikai žygį į kraterį pradeda dar neprašvitus – ryte ima pūsti vėjas ir sklaidyti aštrius sieros dūmus, tuomet dirbti pasidaro nebeįmanoma. Deja, šis darbas labai kenksmingas sveikatai, dauguma darbininkų neturi tinkamų saugos priemonių, dėl ko vyrus lydi ligos ir trumpesnė gyvenimo trukmė.

The risky and exhausting journey of sulphur

Ijen crater in Java (Indonesia). Workers are carrying the baskets full of sulphur from the crater to the bottom of the Volcano. Once reaching the crater rim, men can breathe some fresh air and rest. With single going, one can carry 65-80kg load. Men make two goings earning several dollars. It is small but guaranteed money.

Men are starting before the sunrise as later the wind starts dispersing the toxic fume and making it impossible to work. This job is very harmful, thus leading into diseases and earlier deaths.

Darbininko kasdienybė toksiškų dūmų apsuptyje

Ijen krateris Javos saloje (Indonezija). Darbininkas metaliniu įrankiu skaldo sierą, nutekėjusią specialiai įrengtais vamzdžiais. Sieros dūmai ne tik graužia akis ir gniaužia kvapą, bet yra ir itin toksiški. Dauguma darbininkų neturi tinkamų saugos priemonių, kaip ir šis, nuo dūmų prisidengęs tik skarele. Šią nuotrauką padaryti pavyko ne iš karto, nes dūmai vis sutrukdydavo darbininkui prieiti prie sieros šaltinio bei uždengdavo statines ir vamzdžius, kuriais atiteka siera. Dažnai kasikas minutei paskęsdavo dūmuose ir, sulaikęs kvapą, laukdavo, kol debesis pasišalins. Darbininkų sveikata – tokia yra nematoma sieros produktų kaina.

The daily worker's environment in the toxic fumes

Ijen crater in Java (Indonesia). The worker is using a metal tool for splitting the sulphur, which has flown from the ceramic pipes. Not only are the fumes irritating eyes and blocking respiration, but are highly toxic as well. Most of the workers have no special safety gear, just like the one in the photograph, who is using a simple kerchief to cover up. It was not easy to take this picture as the fumes were preventing the worker from coming to the source of sulphur and blocking the view as well. Often the worker was covered with the cloud, holding his breath and waiting for the fumes to clear up. Health of the workers – such is the price of sulphur products.

Krepšių siunta į atokų kaimą kalnuose

Inle ežero apylinkės, Myanmaras. Pėsčiomis žygiavome kalnuotomis vietovėmis. Moteris neša sunkų krepšių ryšulį iš didesnio miestelio į kaimelį kalnuose, kur krepšius parduos vietiniams kaimo žmonėms. Myanmaras – viena skurdžiausių ir mažiausiai išsivysčiusių Azijos (ir pasaulio) valstybių, ne kiekvienas gali nusipirkti motociklą ar gyvulį, kaip ir ši moteriškė, kuri tolimą atstumą įveikia pėsčiomis. Visuomet vienu ypu paimama daugiausiai, kiek galima panešti. Tačiau labiausiai žavi azijičių pozityvumas – nors darbas ir sunkus, žmonės šypsosi ir nesiskundžia.

 The delivery of baskets to a remote village over the hills

Inle lake district, Myanmar. We encountered this woman while trekking over the mountains – she was carrying a parcel from a bigger town to her village, where she would sell the baskets to the villagers. Myanmar is one of the poorest and least developed country in Asia (and the whole world). Not every citizen can afford a motorbike or an animal, just like this lady who walks a distant way on foot with a heavy pack – one takes as much as possible to carry. However, the most amusing is the positivity of asians – even though the work is tough, people are smiling and not complaining.

Šventyklos priežiūra – kaimo bendruomenės pareiga ir šventė

Djenne, Malis. Fotografijoje matoma kasmetinė kaimo šventė, kuomet moliu prieš lietaus sezoną atnaujinama mečetė – didžiausias pasaulyje molio statinys. Šioje ceremonijoje dalyvauja visas kaimas, ji vyksta dvi dienas. Molį ant mečetės tepti patikima tik patyrusiems vyrams, kurie lipa aukštomis kopėčiomis ir specialiai konstrukcijoje įbestais medžio kuolais. Darbas vyksta organizuotai ir greitai, nes jį atlikti reikia saulei nepatekėjus – moterys neša vandenį, vaikai teplioja sienas, su skanduotėmis laksto ir molį neša didelės vaikinų grupės, kyla dulkės. Fotografijoje mečetė jau po darbo, šviežiai nutepta, groja muzika, vaikai žaidžia su iš plastikinių maišelių pasidarytu kamuoliu, mėtomasi moliu – džiaugiamasi atliktu komandiniu darbu.

Mudding of the mosque – a duty and a celebration for the village community

Djenne, Mali. The celebration of mosque mudding is taking place twice a year – the building has to be strengthened before the rainy season. Mosque of Djenne is the biggest mud building in the world. The whole village is participating in the two day ceremony. The mudding itself is done by experienced men, who climb using high ladders and wooden pieces of the mosque's construction. The work is organized and fast as it has to be done before the sun starts drying the mud – women are bringing water, children are mudding the fence, young men are running in groups and bringing mud, the whole village falls in dust. Photograph shows the freshly mudded mosque – the village is celebrating a finished teamwork, there is loud music, children are playing with self-made ball, youngsters are throwing mud at each other.

Kalnai nykstančios žuvies – žemės ūkiui

Nouakchott uostas, Mauritanija. Vakarų Afrika – vienas produktyviausių žvejybos regionų pasaulyje, bet viskas turi ribas – vandenys peržvejojami, o ypač prie to prisideda užsienio žvejybos kompanijos, kurios gauna kvotas už sandorius su valdžia. Nors šalis turtinga ištekliais, žmonės gyvena skurde, o sumažėjus žuvies ištekliams, iš šios sferos išstumiami vietiniai žvejai. Fotografijoje matyti kalnai žuvies skirti ne maistui – tinklais pagauta menkesnės vertės žuvis naudojama žemės ūkyje pašarui ir trąšoms.

Tones of vanishing fish – for agriculture

The port of Nouakchott, Mauritania, West Africa – one of the most productive fishing regions in the World, but everything has it's limits – the waters are being overfished, significantly by the foreign fishing companies, which get quotas for deals with the government. Even though the country is very rich in resources, people live in poverty and with declining resources of fish, local fishermen communities are affected. The piles of fish seen in the photograph are not for food – the less vulnerable and damaged fish caught in nets is going to be used for agriculture.
